FRANCISCO GUERRERO / “Hotel Riviera”

March 11th, 2006 — April 15st, 2006
Opening Reception: Saturday, March 11th 6—8 PM
Visit Artists Gallery: Francisco Guerrero
The Happy Lion is pleased to present the Los Angeles debut of artist Francisco Guerrero. Hotel Riviera consists of 24 small scale paintings depicting women as overt versions of sexual symbolism. Mining the never ending stream of disposable imagery from popular culture for source material, Guerrero employs economic brush work, generalization of palette and a repetitive format to emphasize the anonymity of the female subjects. His paintings are both lush and playful while stressing the inability of this representation to transfer sensuality to the viewer.
Francisco Guerrero is a graduate of the University of Southern California and received his Masters of Fine Arts from University of California at San Diego. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in New York, Mexico, Los Angeles and elsewhere. He has held teaching positions at Cornell University and the University of Seattle. He currently lives and works in Seattle, WA.
Gallery hours are Wed.—Sat. 12 to 6 pm.
